As a heavy smoker myself, I used to be skeptical when people are talking about electronic cigarettes. A few years ago, the electronic cigarette starter kits available on the market are not capable of recreating the same smoking sensations we all love and enjoy when smoking tobacco cigarettes. Today, however, modern electronic cigarettes are more than capable of producing an even more enjoyable smoking experience altogether while offering a number of benefits in the process.
The main benefit you will experience right away is the fact that even the best electronic cigarette is more affordable than tobacco cigarettes. Read more…
We often mention that our smile makeovers include diode laser gum correction. If you’ve ever wondered what this method actually entails, here’s an explanation.
Your smile’s appearance is influenced not just by the look of your teeth, but also the look of your gums. Some patients have gums that extend too far over the tops of their teeth, creating that “gummy” smile and making the teeth appear small. Alternately, if your teeth are in fact too short for your face, reducing the amount of gum tissue can make the teeth appear longer and more cosmetically pleasing. Either wa

Testosterone is the man hormone. Women have their estrogen and we have our testosterone. Higher natural levels of testosterone are good for us. We repair tissue faster which is not only a great thing for building muscle, but a great thing for maintaining a healthy body. We also have healthier soldiers. And if you want to have a kid some day, healthier soldiers are a must.
Higher testosterone levels also result in lower blood pressure, reduced risk of heart attacks, improved immune function, and smaller waistlines. The more we can naturally produce this powerful man hormone, the healthier were going to be.
But society is trying to keep us down, and it starts from the day were born. Read more…
With next week being Thanksgiving in the U.S. and other holidays quickly approaching, Im sure many of you are wondering what you should do, if anything, with your babys schedule and sleep. It can be tricky when you travel or need to be at a family event during a nap time (our extended family Thanksgiving dinner is at 2 p.m., for example). Depending on your babys personality and temperament, some babies will be fine with an off schedule for one day. They may be a bit overtired, maybe have a little rougher nights sleep, but get back on track the next day. Other babies will take days to get back on track.
Today’s topic comes courtesy of my daughter, who woke up in the middle of the night last night with a random observation: “Hey! I just realized that Bob the Builder and Barack Obama have the same motto!”
I’ve written at some length (1, 2) about the name Barack Obama and all it signifies. I have never written a word about cartoon construction mogul Bob the Builder. Because, you know, his name is Bob. And he builds stuff.
But Bob is an international phenomenon, and his name is a perfect testbed for the process of literary name translation. The Bob the Builder name has three components:
1. The guy’s name is Bob.
2. He’s a builder.
3. Alliteration.
Don’t underestimate that third component.
Financial reimbursement and ownership of cardiac imaging equipment appears to influence physicians’ use of cardiac stress testing, according to a new study from Duke University Medical Center.
The study finds that doctors who are reimbursed for both performing the test using their equipment and then interpreting the results were 50 to 100 percent more likely to order cardiac imaging tests on their patients than those who don’t bill the fees.
The study appears today in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
After analyzing claims from a large national insurance company, the Duke researchers found physicians who receive reimbursement for technical fees, which cover facility and equipment costs, and professional fees, which cover time spent interpreting or supervising the tests, were markedly more likely to routinely order stress imaging tests in discretionary situations when compared with physicians who are only reimbursed for professional fees or who do not bill for these procedures.
“The use of cardiac imaging technology has grown rapidly in this country and there is a lot of variation among physicians in terms of when and why they are used,” says Bimal Shah, MD, a cardiologist and assistant professor of medicine at Duke and lead author of the study.
“For the first time, we show that financial reimbursement structures may be yet another factor associated with this variation in testing behavior.”
Shah and his colleagues looked at the use of two types of cardiac stress imaging tests — nuclear, which uses radioactive material to image blood flow, and echocardiography, which uses ultrasound images. He determin
With the increasing incidence of colon cancer, it is necessary for anyone worried about the health of their colon to know what is a healthy bowel movement. For many people, they judge a healthy bowel movement as one in which they have made for that day.
Even though it might seem peculiar or embarrassing to talk about bowel movements, they are important. For a long time it has been believed that the digestive system played a major role in the health of the person.
Therefore, whatever the person chooses to eat, would affect his or her digestion leading to some form of gastrointestinal illness.
Therefore, it is simply not enough to consider that one bowel movement a day is a sign of a healthy bowel.
