Arlington Boy Lucky To Be Alive After Heart Attack

Angie Franco is a cop, but when she received a call that her son, Marcos, was having a seizure, she quickly went into her Mommy Mode. “When you think of your children hurting or not being here,” said the Arlington police detective, “the cop side is put aside.”

The incident happened on August 25 while Franco’s son was at school. “I was running in the gym and bent down to tie my shoe,” recalled Marcos. “Next thing I knew, I was unconscious.” The firefighters who came to help 8-year-old Marcos said that he had suffered a heart attack.

Firefighters estimate that it took about four minutes to reach Marcos. The fast response time was crucial to them saving his life. Emergency crews administered CPR and shocked his heart back into its rhythm. “We got him back after one shock,” said Arlington firefighter Guy Moore.

“I just remember everything going perfect that day. The stars were aligned. Everything happened just like it’s supposed to,” Moore added. “He’s a very lucky boy.”

Now, Marcos has a defibrillator implant, another device that could save his life. “Sometimes I think about it, and when I think about it, I tap it,” Marcos said.

Meanwhile, Franco knows that her son would not be here if it were not for those firefighters. “The Lord put these men in a place for a reason,” Franco said, “and He’s given us a second chance.”
